Ziba Foundation - Dr.Maryam Ghavami
Dr. Maryam Ghavami, despite being a medical doctor by profession, is also a talented and accomplished artist. Maryam graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey with a Bachelor's degree, majoring in English and minoring in Political Science. She earned her medical degree with the highest honors from Ross University School of Medicine in June of 2007. She started her Pediatric residency in the noted Schneider Children’s Hospital of North Shore-LIJ as of July 1, 2007. Maryam has been writing poetry since childhood and has been recognized and published over the past 10 years for her acclaimed work in a number of publications, including Persian Heritage Magazine and Ziba E-magazine. She is also artistically accomplished in traditional Persian folk dancing, as well as on the piano and violin, with a range of performances in cultural programs organized by institutions such as the Persian Cultural and Humanitarian Association (PCHA), and the United Nations. Maryam co-founded the Ziba Foundation in 2002, along with her parents. It aims to provide a new platform for the appreciation of Iranian arts. In 2007, she was the Master of Ceremonies for a fundraising Gala for the Encyclopedia Iranica.
